DOCTOR'S NOTE
At Skin Laundry, we believe that skincare is a lifestyle and doesn’t take seasonal breaks. Our hero treatment, the Signature Laser Facial, is a dermatologist-designed innovation that targets common skin concerns ranging from acne and rosacea to melasma, hyperpigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. Most effective as part of a regular routine, this treatment is a year-round staple for those seeking ultimate skin health. However, clients often ask us whether laser facials are safe to continue during the summer months, when the skin is dealing with more sun exposure. The short answer is ‘Yes’—but don’t take our word for it.
Here, Skin Laundry’s Chief Medical Officer, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Roberta Del Campo, explains why our Laser Facials are safe all year round. She also reveals her top pre- and post-care tips for summer and beyond.
What is Skin Laundry’s Signature Laser Facial?
Recently named Best Laser Treatment by Cosmopolitan, Skin Laundry’s Signature Laser Facial is a 15-minute treatment that requires no downtime. Safe for all skin types and tones, this hero treatment uses proprietary, state-of-the-art technology to target a range of common skin concerns—including acne, rosacea, wrinkles and melasma— in clients aged 13 and above.
During the treatment, the light emitted from the laser converts into gentle heat energy in the dermis (or middle layer of the skin) where it breaks up excess pigmentation, repairs vascular damage, stimulates collagen and elastin production and removes damaged tissue. Notably, our laser bypasses the epidermal (or top) layer of the skin, therefore leaving the skin barrier, and healthy, normal melanin unaffected. The result is visibly healthier, brighter, firmer skin for all skin tones and types.
At Skin Laundry we’re constantly looking to improve skin health, and this isn’t something that should take a seasonal break.
“At Skin Laundry we’re constantly looking to improve skin health,” says Dr. Del Campo. “This isn’t something that should take a seasonal break.” Although it’s sometimes said that laser treatments are most beneficial in the springtime, Del Campo doesn’t adhere to this philosophy, or the notion that you should hit pause on laser facials in the summer. “I usually tell my patients that with the right technology, there’s no better or worse time [to get a laser facial],” she reiterates. “It’s really about consistency and it’s about continuing to treat your skin year-round. There’s no reason to take a break from skin health.”
For those who rely on year-round facials to keep acne, rosacea and other skin conditions at bay, the good news is that Skin Laundry’s Laser Facials are safe for every season. “The specific technology that Skin Laundry uses dives deeper into the skin, bypassing that top layer of skin that can become more reactive in summer,” Del Campo explains, referring to the fact that heat can cause dehydration in the skin, which may lead to redness, dryness or irritation. Of course, proper after-care is always essential to keeping the skin safe and maximizing the facial’s results.
That said, before getting a Signature Laser Facial in the summertime, Del Campo notes that it’s important to check your skin for any of our contraindications or conditions that make the skin unsuitable for a laser facial at that given time. For example, “Never make appointments if your skin is sunburned, or if you have any type of redness or irritation from the sun,” Del Campo says. “If you do, you want to let the skin heal and get back to baseline, then do the treatment.”

The Signature Laser Facial is ideal for getting your skin back on track after a sunny getaway, as the technology treats and repairs the signs of sun damage. In addition to dark spots, UV exposure can cause collagen and elastin to break down, which leads to wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin.
“The laser heats up sun-damaged skin, which tricks the body into healing skin at the deepest layers, stimulating new, healthy collagen and elastin and thereby minimizing evidence of photodamage,” Del Campo says. “Not only is the Signature Laser Facial going to improve the appearance of sun-damaged or photodamaged skin, but it’s actually going to change the anatomical structure, improve the skin’s health and give us stronger, healthier, more resilient skin.”
After a Signature Laser Facial, your Skin Laundry provider will apply a serum that targets your specific skincare concerns, and top it off with our Sun Defense Mineral SPF 30 Sunscreen.
At home, you should continue to care for your skin with consistent use of SPF. “Aftercare is always about sunblock—no matter what time of the year,” Del Campo says. “We’re investing in our skin with these treatments, so sunblock is important [to maximize and maintain the benefits.] Particularly in summertime when UV exposure is the most intense, sunblock is going to be the most important element post procedure.”
In the one to two weeks following a Laser Facial, it’s best to avoid direct or unprotected sun exposure and to diligently apply a SPF30 or above every two hours. Why? After a Laser Facial, new tissue begins to form which is more sensitive to UV damage. In general, sun exposure can create pigment changes in the skin and sun exposure too soon after a laser facial could undo all of the treatment’s beneficial results, no matter what the season.
Laser Facial aftercare is always about sunblock—no matter what time of the year.
In addition to avoiding overtly sunny scenarios (like a beach day or sunbathing by the pool), using a sunscreen with a protection factor of 30 or above is essential to protect the skin from UV damage. SPF30 blocks about 97 percent of UVB rays from penetrating the skin, while SPF15 block approximately 93 percent. And remember, frequent reapplication is key. Sunscreens lose efficacy due to UV absorption, sweat and friction, so most suncare products are effective for only 80 minutes to two hours after application.
